A great opportunity has arisen in the Global Advisors Team to provide leadership across Plan International’s varied programmes, including Gender Equality, Education, Protection, and Citizenship and Governance.

Plan is giving top priority to Early Child Care and Development for children 0-8 years old to assure all children enjoy their right to a good healthy start in life as the foundation for reaching their full potential throughout their life cycle. The Global Advisor Early Child Care and Development will lead Plan’s programme and policy work in the field. The successful applicant will lead internal processes to promote innovation, learn from experience, and build capacity in community managed programs for children 0-8 years old. You will lead a Plan International ECCD Network that has developed a framework to apply best practices for children’s survival, development, participation and protection from Prenatal to Preschool to Transition period in school. Following Plan’s Child Centered Community Development approach, ECCD will be a foundation for empowered child centeredness in all communities and will be evidence for advocating for policy and scaled up programs.

Your task would be to lead a Plan wide participatory process for identification and analysis of evidence from the most credible internal and external sources on ECCD Programs. Influence senior external policy makers, based on Plan’s robust vision, analysis and experience in ECCD. Lead coherent global programming that makes a distinctive and strategic contribution to the technical field both internally and externally

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:In depth knowledge of the field, NGO perspectives and what Plan could aspire to achieve. Experience of rights based approaches to children’s development, contextualised to an NGO. Excellent understanding of relevant policy making processes, influencers and institutions – including reliable insights into institutional politics. Excellent understanding of the practicalities of designing and implementing high quality programmes. Understanding of how to get things done within a complex organisational structure. Compelling influencer and communicator Able to inspire others and bring them together around a common agenda Excellent conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking skills Advanced facilitation and consultation skills Strong ability to communicate policy and theoretical concepts in simple terms. Understanding human behaviours, able to adapt communications style as needed to achieve results Demonstrable finance and people management skills Strong team building and motivational skills Strong project management skills Able to build networks and manage /influence across borders Confident public speaker with media skills Fluent in English. Capacity in French and/or Spanish will be an advantage. Leading and inspiring staff across the organisation Inspire trust and support from others Provides vision and direction Promotes innovation and learning Takes responsibility for achieving significant results Able to create rapport with wide range of groups Good at listening to others and highly respectful of them Demonstrably committed to Plan’s goals and values Holds self and others to account to deliver on agreed goals and standards of behaviour Consistent in approach to work and decision-making Have a high degree of self-awareness and is well aware of his/her impact on others and behaves accordingly Sees contribution of children in his/her own part of the organisation as well as throughout Plan The ECCD Advisor should have strong professional background in ECCD and experience in working in poor communities in sustainable programs.

Location: Based at Plan Inernational Headquarters, Woking, Surrey, UK. Other locations may be considered at the hiring managers disgression providing that there is a Plan office in that location and you have the right to work in that country.
