Expert (m/f) in Agriculture in Punia, Democratic Republic of Congo
This post is to be filled as soon as possible, and is scheduled to end on 15/05/2014. The field location is Punia - Kasese, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Our projects make a contribution to the food security of the rural population who have been plagued, and internally displaced, by repeated armed conflicts, so as to facilitate their reintegration into the agricultural production process and into civilian life. Living and working conditions in the project location are often difficult and require the post holder to show adaptability.
Objectives and responsibilities of the position
As an Expert (m/f) in Agriculture, you will be responsible for implementing and supervising the overall agricultural project activities in the project area.
Your key responsibilities:
- Implementing the measures financed by the Federal Foreign Office in order to improve the situation of the rural population groups in the project area in terms of food and incomes.
- Procuring and distributing seeds/ hand tools
- Documenting the measures in accordance with the co-financiers' guidelines in collaboration with the Head of Project and the project administration team
- Training and managing the local project staff
- Training and instructing the farmers
- Coordinating and discussing the planned project activities with the local decision-makers and other aid and development organisations operating in the project area
Your qualifications will include:
- a university or polytechnic degree in the field of agricultural science, or comparable completed training
- several years' experience of carrying out international (aid) agency projects - preferably in the region
- coordination and organisational skills, even when under considerable strain and difficult local conditions
- cooperation and team work
- a good command of French
