  1. Overview

1.1. BackgroundWar Child works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, child headed households, children associated with armed groups, and children who have been put in prison. Our mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment around all the children we serve. We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no longer torn apart by war. This is a vision that can only be realised through the collective actions of children themselves, communities and their leaders, organisations like War Child, governments and key decision makers.

War Child UK is recruiting a Programme Coordinator who will coordinate projects funded by multiple donors in many locations across North Kivu The projects include, reintegrate girl street children who may be formerly associated with armed forces and armed groups, continie the child protection toll free help lines, build capacity and provide support to community child protection networks and local service providers in child protection. Ensure creation and operation of child friendly spaces and all other child protection programmes.

The Programme Coordinator is a senior position and will provide critical support to the Country Director (CD) in new programme development and extending War Child’s work beyond Goma and potentially beyond North Kivu. The Programme Coordinator will be line managed by the DRC Country Director (CD), also based in Goma. The CD will provide direction on all issues related to programming, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation support.

1.2. Key Responsibilitieso Project Coordination: Lead the coordination of child protection projects to ensure they are implemented in a timely manner and within budget. o Capacity Building: Identify needs and build capacity of partner organisations (i.e.: Don Bosco, Child Protection Networks, and local authorities) in key program areas. o Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and maintain M&E system in line with War Child global and donor requirementso Compliance: Ensure adherence to donor and organisational requirements, including the War Child child protection policy, including adherence by partner staff.

1.3. 1.4 Contractual Termso Preferred start date: January 7, 2013 (induction in the UK before field deployment)o Salary: £27,625 per annumo Benefits: Every 3 months with equivalent plane ticket from Kigali-Nairobi; Private & Emergency Travel & Medicalo Leave: 30 days/yearo Allowances: Accommodation, 20 USD/day per diem and medical insurance
o Contract length: 1 year (may be extended according to funding)
