POSITION SUMMARY:

ADRA Sudan is an international NGO with more than 30 years history of delivering humanitarian service in Sudan. Our projects help the people of West Darfur state, White and Blue Nile states and Khartoum state to live meaningful lives. ADRA Sudan partners with the government both at federal and state level, USAID/OFDA, UNDP, ADRA Denmark (DANIDA), ADRA Norway (NORAD), ADRA Sweden (SMC/SIDA), MCC/CFGB, BftW Germany and National NGOs.

ADRA Sudan is seeking to employ a Program Director. This position requires strong leadership, management, communication and capacity building skills. Recognizing that relationships are equally important than projects for the people of Sudan, the Program Director will demonstrate patience and care towards guests and staff in the implementation of his/her duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare proposals and send grant requests (Lead out in the development of proposals in new sectors and liaise with donors)
  • Provide technical assistance in developing or revising grant proposals and keep abreast of latest developmental methodologies and donor trends which impact ADRA’s planning process
  • Initiate, participate and coordinate planning activities.
  • Lead out in the development of country program vision/strategy/plan for Sudan.
  • Coordinate field needs assessment and analyze results in coordination with program personnel.
  • Develop and strengthen monitoring, evaluation and feedback tools/system.
  • Provide leadership and management support for key managerial positions in ADRA Sudan.
  • Coordinate with program teams to ensure the procurement and delivery of materials to program-supported beneficiaries.
  • Submit regular, on-time and informative reports to donors
  • Coordinate and keep donors informed about project progress and significant updates
  • Conduct monitoring visits and prepare reports to assess implementation of program-supported activities.
  • Provide support and deliver training to improve the capacities of national NGOs, community-based organizations, and local groups in-country.
  • Represent the ADRA Sudan program in inter-agency coordination meetings, and meetings with state-level line ministries and other government offices for sectors of work related to the program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in development-related subjects or any other relevant degree with a minimum of 4 years management experience in development programming, with at least 2 years exclusively field-based

Skills required

  • Ability to adapt to varied work-related tasks, challenges, and unexpected situations
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • At least three years of prior program officer experience with an NGO.
  • Demonstrated experience working with community-based organizations and groups in participatory program development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in programs requiring community-level engagement.
  • Excellent organizational skills and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver training on topics related to local CBO/NGO organizational strengthening.
  • Ability to perform project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to work effectively independently and as a team member.
  • Proven experience in program management, design and development.

Travels

The position is based in Khartoum, Sudan but the Programs Director is expected to conduct periodic field visits to in-country project sites. The incumbent should be fit for road/plane journeys and basic living conditions during field travel.

COMPENSATION

A competitive package will be provided in compensation for the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Benefits will include one round-trip ticket per year from/to home country and luggage allowance, entry and residency visas, housing allowance, premium international insurance, and basic medical coverage in Sudan.

Khartoum is considered a family duty station. Although ADRA Sudan welcomes all applications, the costs associated with family relocation and children schooling will not be covered under the proposed contract.
