Position Purpose
Amnesty International India seeks to establish a supporter base of individual members across India who would fund our work and campaign with us to protect rights for all Indians. Our goal is to ensure that a bulk of our donors come from direct dialogue through various face-to-face programs such as residential canvassing, street fundraising, and local events. Through these contributions from individuals, we will endeavour in making India a more law-abiding, rights-respecting society, and we will work diligently to make sure that the funds have the impact we all wish – improving lives by ensuring human rights.
The Retention Manager will lead, manage and be responsible for all of our retention and donor-loyalty programs, managing donor journeys and driving plans forward in order to maximize donor engagement and life time value. A marketing communication professional and manager with relevant experience of non-profit donor retention and stewardship, the Retention Manager is expected to provide leadership to a team and support all donor relationship work, retain one-off donors and strive to convert them to regular donors through auto-debits. This position requires a creative and innovative individual with a good streak of entrepreneurial fire and a comfort with handling income and expenditure budgets. Critical to the role is managing a range of individual donors, vendors and suppliers as well as creative communication materials. The Retention Manager works with and reports to the Fundraising Director, and shall have other key cross functional relationships.
Key Result Areas
- Achieve year on year revenue goals
- Retain half of one-off donors every year
- Convert at least 15% one-off donors to regular donors through auto debits
- Upgrade at least 5% of existing donors
- Introduce 3 to 5 new pro bono donor loyalty products every year
- Support all existing donors with donor relationship and other materials- like welcome gifts, TYL, tax receipts, periodic engagements etc.
- Open possibilities for Amnesty International India representation in multiple high value annual events to access HNIs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the revenue strategy and ensure that it aligns with the organisation’s partnership and fundraising strategy.
- Develop plans, tactics and actions to increase donor loyalty and to maximize their value.
- Deliver an engaging donor relationship program and create donor welcome, retention, upgrade and reactivation materials.
- Identify and assess donor development and retention best practices, providing onsite training and mentoring to team and clients.
- Provide input into creative and functional aspects of donor relationship management.
- Work closely with the Acquisition Managers, Fundraising Analysts and Membership Support Coordinators in order to maximize donor retention.
- Lead and manage Database, donor communication materials and Telemarketing programs for retention, upgrade and reactivation.
- Maintain a keen interest and good lay understanding of requirements research issues in order to communicate these effectively to internal and external audiences.
- Work with the other teams to produce written communications, including reports, updates, creative briefs or proposals as needed for the follow up or retention, upgrade or reactivation.
- Develop relationships with professional event management companies, possible high value event venues, organisations and suppliers to generate pro- bono support for donor loyalty and deliver exceptional quality events to a high value audience.
- Co-ordinate cross-functional relationships with mobilisation, program, finance, research and operations.
SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The successful candidate will be driven by wanting to ensure the channels s/he manages are successful, and build an excellent return. S/he should ensure that the team members are highly motivated to deliver and be successful. They will need to be fascinated by how they can inspire prospects to support our unique approach to protect human rights for all over the long term.
- Track record of delivering successful donor retention and development programs.
- Practical understanding of individual fundraising techniques.
- Strong analytical skills – the ability to analyse marketing and financial data to guide decision making.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and to take a leadership role
- Cultural sensitivity – the ability to work effectively cross culturally and adapt communications style as needed to foster collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience in using databases and data management.
- Preferable: Exposure to Human Rights or other development issues
- Good understanding of socio political and economic scenario in India
- Strong managerial, coordination and project management skills
- Ability to develop and manage annual budget and planning
- Reporting and monitoring progress
- Experience in managing and effective use database of donors
- Overseeing data entry and gift processing.
- Manage Recognition and engagement cycle.
