Position Summary:
Responsible for providing semi-structured engagement programs and set of activities for shelter residents including supervised play for out of school children, vocational/recreational activities for adults, access to in-house counselling and supervised homework for in-school children.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
o Under the direct supervision of a centre manager, the incumbent will provide social services including the following functions:
o Conduct case assessments in coordination with other HRTK staff and keeps track of socio-environmental risks faced by refugees at heightened risk;
o Interview separated children, unaccompanied minors and other children-at-risk for the purpose of preparing Best Interest Assessment (BIA) and Best Interest Determination (BID) reports;
o Liaise with the Child Protection focal person to ensure services are reaching separated and unaccompanied minors, including specific services as recommended by the BID Panel.
o Provide basic counselling to less complex cases and facilitate access and referral for cases of complex trauma to counselling psychologists
o Assist in the preparation and implementation of entry and exit reports for residents;
o Design and implement daily activities and supervised play for out of school children;
o Liaise with the Psychosocial Programme Manager to design, implement and facilitate daily activities geared towards the vocation/recreation of adult residents
o Provide supervised homework and revision for in-school children
o Perform other duties as required.
Education
o University degree in Social work, Community development or Sociology with some basic counseling skills.
o Experience working with refugee assistance sector or at risk groups will be a plus.
o Experience working at safe house or institution is a distinct advantage
Skills and competencies
o Computer literacy a must: excellent working knowledge with WORD, ACCESS and EXCEL
o Good knowledge of human rights doctrine and working experience in counselling
o Good knowledge of child rights and prevention and response to SGBV issues
o Good knowledge of Nairobi and its environs
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Languages:
Proficiency in English and Swahili
