Minority Rights Group International is looking for an intern to support their Asia team, to help develop new projects and programmes of work, primarily in South Asia and possibly in Southeast Asia.

Candidates need to have either a good knowledge of the human rights situation in South Asian countries or experience having worked on one or more countries in the region. MRG currently has very few projects running in South Asia and is looking to develop new work in this region. The role mainly involves researching on the human rights situation of specific minorities in countries in South Asia. You will also need to have good Microsoft Office Excel skills to be able to help develop budgets for new programmes. You will need to liaise with our partner organisations in South Asian countries and with MRG's networks in the region, which constitute national and community organisations working on human rights issues. You will be expected to provide the team with administrative support.

You should also have an interest in human rights and issues affecting minorities.

We also welcome ERASMUS candidates.

Tasks would include:

Researching minority rights issues in specific countries and across the region.Liaising with MRG in country partners.Research on thematic issues MRG works on.Helping to design budgets.Administrative and logistical support to the programme coordinator and assistant (helping to organize events and trips)Media monitoring.Assist in drafting, word-processing and formatting lengthy documents and proposals.

Essential skills/qualifications:

A university degree level qualification.Knowledge of or work experience on one or more countries in South Asia.Good research and analytical skills.Ability to work under pressure.Good communication skills.Understanding of human rights.Very good English language skills.Good Microsoft Office Excel skills.

Desirable skills/qualifications:

Understanding of minority rights.Understanding of conflict prevention issues.Experience of organizing events, using databases.Fundraising and/or programme design experience.

The intern would work at MRG's offices in London (E1) minimum two days a week, for an initial period of three months, with an option to renew upon mutual agreement.
