Malaria Consortium is one of the world's leading non-profit organisations dedicated to the comprehensive control of malaria and other communicable diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia. Malaria Consortium works with communities, government and non-government agencies, academic institutions, and local and international organisations, to ensure good evidence supports delivery of effective services, providing technical support for monitoring and evaluation of programmes and activities for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. The organisation works to improve not only the health of the individual, but also the capacity of national health systems, which helps relieve poverty and support improved economic prosperity.
Malaria Consortium’s External Communications team, based in London, is seeking assistance with its rapidly expanding advocacy work. The candidate must have a strong interest in this discipline, as well as competence in the use of the internet for research and social media engagement. In addition to a range of research, writing and supporting tasks, the candidate must be prepared to assist with administrative tasks for the team.
The successful candidate will work primarily with the Senior Communications Manager, supporting their work to represent the organisation to external stakeholders within Parliament, DFID and civil society networks. The candidate must have a strong interest in politics (particularly the UK) as well as a good knowledge of international development and/or public health issues. This role would suit someone that is interested in policy issues, is a confident communicator, excellent writer and willing to multi-task.
The successful candidate will have:
• University degree or significant experience in international development (ideally in a public health context)• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power point, etc)• Excellent writing skills• Excellent English• Strong web-based researching skills• Able to work independently but demonstrate good time-management skills.
Desirable:
• Familiarity with online concepts and packages such as: blogs, social networking, e-communications, Flickr and Youtube • Advocacy or external communications experience
The project is offered for 5 days a week (this is negotiable) for a period of 6 months and is voluntary. Lunch and reasonable travel expenses are covered.
