United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Direct Marketing Manager

This is a great opportunity for an experienced direct marketing fundraising professional to take the lead in developing and successfully implementing Progressio’s fundraising strategy and plans to increase income from individuals and develop supporter base. This area of work has been greatly developed over the last year and with this new post you will be taking forward and further shaping this work.
You will have line management responsibilities for the Community and Events Fundraiser and will be joining us at an exciting time, with an opportunity to make a real impact on Progressio’s fundraising successes.
The successful candidate should be educated to degree level in a relevant field or have equivalent experience.
A proven track record of securing significant income through direct marketing campaigns; of direct marketing for acquisition, stewardship and/or donor development; of regular internal reporting; of using Raiser’s Edge or a equivalent fundraising database, and of sourcing and managing external agencies and suppliers is essential.
You should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and engaging way; excellent writing skills for fundraising, including the ability to develop high quality direct marketing materials and script; first class skills in how to plan and implement fundraising mailings/campaigns; excellent knowledge of database marketing and the principles of relationship marketing or fundraising; strong analytical skills to learn from practice and adapt plans and activities accordingly; knowledge and understanding of keeping and using data, especially maintaining its integrity and the importance of segmentation, and knowledge of legal/financial issues associated with fundraising, such as data protection and confidentiality, direct debit and Gift Aid.
Excellent organisational and project management skills including the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines; enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial, results-orientated and proactive approach; excellent computer skills, particularly Excel; flexibility to undertake a range of hands-on duties; willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends (with time off in lieu) and travel occasionally within the UK, and a genuine interest in and understanding of international development issues is also required.
