The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.

Program Background:

The IRC has been working in Pakistan since 1980. The IRC is leading a Pakistan Reading Project PRP to improve the quality of reading in public and private schools, supporting at least 2.5 million additional primary school students to read at a level commensurate with standards at their grade level. This goal will be supported by the mutually-reinforcing components of teacher education and professional development (PD), systems reform, and civil society engagement.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Scholarships Advisor is responsible for the coordination and oversight of academic scholarship programs to upgrade teacher and faculty skills in each region of the country.

Responsibilities:

• Lead host institution recruitment and selection and participant placement strategies;• Oversee the participant application process by ensuring the timely submission of requisite university paperwork, obtaining necessary application documentation, communicating with the universities, and monitoring the admissions process; • Oversee participant caseload which includes monitoring their progress; counseling them on academic, financial, and personal matters; preparing status reports; working closely with key university contacts; and keeping the funder updated on key student developments;• Design and lead (as necessary) orientations;• Work closely with finance and regional teams to track scholarship budgets;• Conduct travel to host universities for site visits;• Contribute written inputs and monitoring data for regular scholarship reports;• Lead work planning and quarterly and annual progress reporting for scholarship activities;• Represent PRP to key government counterparts, donors, and education institutions at the provincial level.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social science, or relevant discipline; • A minimum of five years’ related work experience, preferably working with teachers and/or the higher education community in Pakistan;• Demonstrable interpersonal and intercultural skills and experience working closely with international teams;• Strong organizational and administrative skills, with high attention to detail;• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including computer skills – word processing, Excel, etc.;• Previous experience with donor-funded programs preferred;• Demonstrated innovation and success in staff capacity-building and in participatory, flexible, and gender-sensitive programming and implementation;
• Fluency in English and Urdu is required.
