Association and Alliance Building Specialist, Ethiopia

We are currently seeking an Association and Alliance Building Specialist for a USAID-funded Agricultural Growth Program – Agribusiness and Market Development (AGP-AMDe) project in Ethiopia. The AGP-AMDe project in Ethiopia uses a value chain approach to strengthen the agriculture sector, enhance access to finance and stimulate innovation and private sector investment. This flagship program is part of the U.S. Presidential Feed the Future Initiative, which targets poverty-fighting efforts in countries with chronic food insecurity and insufficient staple crop production. The project targeted value chains—chickpeas, coffee, honey, maize, sesame and wheat—were identified for their potential to improve both food security and incomes. Each of these value chains ranks among the top 10 in Africa. The consultant will support the USAID AGP-AMDe Project for the provision of targeted alliance building technical assistance to the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters Association (ECEA) and EPOSPEA.

Deliverables:Interview 10 key producer, trader, processor, exporter stakeholders for the Ethiopian coffee and sesame export value chain transformation to frame a market driven development hypothesis for ECEA and EPOSPEA building strategy and action planning.Definition and weighting of criteria to be used to prioritize opportunities for industry alliance impact building. These may include organizational capacity building, supply and processor related issue resolution capacity, market linkage capacity building, membership trust and fidelity building and the development and delivery of relevant member services.Provide technical assistance and facilitation services to ECEA and EPOSPEA for the organization and implementation of alliance building strategy and action planning activities to drive the following expected results: ECEA and EPOSPEA are platforms for dynamic coffee and sesame industry exchange and collaboration among coffee industry stakeholders that leads to sustainable growth in Ethiopian exports.
The Consultant will be responsible for implementation of the tasks in this SOW. S/he will be assisted by the AGP-AMD coffee, sesame and chickpea sector experts supplied by ACDI/VOCA and approved by ECEA and EPOSPEA.Develop a power point presentation which includes specific recommendations and the rationale clearly stated behind the reasoning. It will also include various market scenarios and the opportunities and risks that might be entailed under each case.

Qualifications:Minimum 5+ years of experience working on agricultural development and competiveness projects. Master’s degree in relevant agriculture/agronomy technical field.Demonstrated understanding of the value chain approach, ideally in an African context.Experience with production and post-harvest handling a plus.Fluency in English required.
