INTRODUCTION
Translating Research into Action (TRAction) is a global project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Through the University Research Corporation, LLC and icddr,b, the TRAction Bangladesh Project is working to advance and legitimize innovative methodologies in implementation science at icddr,b. Implementation science explores and explains why and how best practices work in particular settings and how these lessons can be scaled-up and translated to other settings. Health policy-makers and program implementers require this evidence in order to implement proven interventions at scale and across different situational contexts. Implementation science is a cornerstone of icddr,b’s vision to contribute to healthier people through evidence-based solutions by generating knowledge through research and translating it into policy and practice. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The consultant will support the Technical Training Unit to develop a distance learning strategy for icddr,b. Specific tasks will include to:• develop a strategy to disseminate the institution’s knowledge via distance learning / online platforms that includes partnering with key institutions such as the James P Grant School of Public Health;• identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies, companies, platforms for instructional purposes; and• suggest software for distance-learning seminars / webinars on implementation science.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education• Master of Distance Education (MDE), a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Experience and Core Competencies• At least five years of experience in developing distance learning content/programmes;• Skills in synchronous and asynchronous course design using current multimedia e-learning supportive tools, and applying relevant distance education theories;• An understanding of principals, practices and techniques of designing, developing, delivering and evaluating educational programs;• Knowledge of current technologies in e-learning and/or distance education; instructional technologies (i.e. interactive media and rapid content development tools); • Demonstrated experience with various hardware, software and networking systems used to support distance learning processes;• Excellent oral communication and writing skills in English; and• Willingness and availability to visit Dhaka, Bangladesh, for 3-5 days.
