India: Program Officer, Oxytocin Initiative Project

The Oxytocin Initiative project funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in its 1st Phase conducted a Landscape review to explore use of uterotonic substances at or around birth in two states of India’ – Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. In the 2nd Phase of the project, the objective is to use the study findings from the 1st Phase to create a strong evidence base to support expanded safe use of the lifesaving drug Oxytocin to improve maternal health and survival in resource-poor settings.The duration of the project is from 1st October, 2012 to 31st December, 2013.
PATH seeks applications to recruit a Program Officer, Oxytocin Initiative Project. He/She will be reporting to the Research Coordinator of the Oxytocin Initiative Project.
Specific responsibilities include:
•Review and synthesize current literature relevant for the Oxytocin Initiative project in India.
•Assist the project team in the development of a data collection methods and tools, consent documents and analysis.
•Assist, as needed in the ethical clearance and monitoring process of research institutions for PATH and all other partner Independent Review Boards(IRB).
•Coordinating with research institutions for the drug quality assessment work.
•Work closely with the project team to develop and support in implementation of strategies to achieve study objectives.
•Provide technical assistance for training to country colleagues for implementation of the proposed intervention, including development of training tools and methodologies.
•Contribute to development of research reports and peer-reviewed publications.
Required Skills
•Reasonable quantitative and statistical skills, including survey methods and secondary data analysis.
•Strong computer skills with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
•Demonstrated experience working in research settings with experience of training a plus.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as to work effectively in a team.
•Ability to produce quality reports.
•Good oral and written communication skills both in Hindi and English.
•Willingness and ability to travel extensively to collect field data if required.
